# Lab Setup

To learn about Nmap, we need to set up a lab environment. You can use vulnerable machines like **Metasploitable2**, **Metasploitable3**, other **VulnHub** virtual machines, or even your own custom-built targets. However, setting these up can be time-consuming.

To save time, we'll be using the [**TryHackMe: Further Nmap**](https://tryhackme.com/room/furthernmap) room. This room is specifically designed to teach Nmap. If you're following along with our handbook, you can skip the content in the room itself—just start the machine and connect to the TryHackMe VPN using **OpenVPN** to access the target IP.

Once you're connected and able to **ping the machine's IP**, you're ready to continue.

If you're unfamiliar with how to connect to TryHackMe’s network, refer to this room: [**TryHackMe: OpenVPN**](https://tryhackme.com/room/openvpn).
